HISTORY Since the inception of Catholic Social Service in September 1979, volunteers have assisted in the mission of Catholic Social Service.

Volunteers
are valuable members of Catholic Social Service’s efforts. One of the important services that are manned
mainly by volunteers is the Telephone
Reassurance Service. The In-Home
Services (IHS) program, assisted by the Case Management Service, established
this service as a new component of IHS where volunteers are coordinated to
provide assurance and contact services to seniors who live alone and are
considered high risk for falling or just being lonely. Other areas where volunteers are needed are in
the Adult Day Care (ADC) Centers. ADC
I that serves the central and southern areas is located in Ordot adjacent to
San Juan Bautista Church. ADC II that
serves the northern area is located in Barrigada Heights behind the old
PriceSmart building. Examples of
volunteer work in this area include exercise such as Tai Chi, light aerobics,
arts and crafts, entertainment, as well as assisting the elderly as needed. The Alee Shelter I and II also have volunteers
who come in and provide support to the women and children. There was one volunteer who spent her time
and some funds to share her talents in interior decoration to prepare the
present Alee Shelter I home for occupancy. CARIDAD I and II has had the services of a
physician who would be on call for consultation if other physicians are not
available. A family volunteered to
provide pizza dinners as well as sing with the consumers every other
Saturdays. The Thrift Shop and the Emergency Food Bank and
Shelter also offers volunteer opportunities to work directly with the needy. There are other volunteer opportunities based on
your interest that include the homeless, elderly, persons with disabilities,
victims of family violence, and the needy in general. Pictures
shown in the above left show a volunteer following up on the well-being of an
elderly client.
