The emergency shelter component provides individuals and families with their emergency food needs to include rice, dried goods, canned goods, baby food and sometimes frozen meat when donated by wholesalers or grocery stores.  Most of those assisted are those whose food stamps are late or have been terminated or individuals who are not eligible for food stamps and need food assistance.

The Emergency Food and Shelter federal program, as well as food and monetary donations from the public stocks and replenishes the food pantry.   Benefactors include the annual U.S. Postal Employees Association canned goods food drive, Payless Supermarkets, Cost-U-Less, International Distributors and other local businesses, and the annual thanksgiving drive from churches and schools.

The other component, which provides households with emergency shelter grants to pay for their utilities, or pay for a month’s rent or mortgage to prevent eviction Funded under the Emergency Food and Shelter Grant.
